Good Turn for America

2010 Andrew Jackson Council Unit Good Turn Award

The program committee of the Andrew Jackson Council has set the following criteria for Units (Packs, Troops, Teams, and Crews) to earn a special award for completing a service project in their home area.

  1. Projects should be organized to include all members of the unit.  Only boy and parents who actually work or participate on the day of the project my earn the award
  2. A minimum of four (4) hours to complete their portion of the project is suggested.  This includes planning and prep time. For instance if a group is gathering food and preparing baskets to take to a food shelter, the time to gather, organize and deliver the product is counted.
  3. Publicize the event with the local media and try to solicit coverage on the day of the service project.  A copy of any news stories or video images that can be included in the report is suggested.
  4. Record the project and the number of hours at the Good Turn For America Website.
  5. Forward any pictures or video to Larry Cagle at the Council Office.  Please make sure that you have Part C of the Annual Health and Medcial form filled out and on file.  You can email Larry at lcagle@bsamail.org
  6. File a report with the Council Office of the Service Project.   Dates for the service project must fall between January 1st, 2010 and December 15th, 2010.

Community Service Ideas or Requests for Help

  • Local Boy Scouts are invited to consider CAMPBELL COVE BUILDING at St. Catherine's Retirement Village in Madison, MS for a community service project.  Campbell Cove is our Memory Support Unit for 36 wonderful residents who greatly enjoy spending time outdoors as the weather permits.  One possible service project would be to adopt the "memory-garden" for outdoor flowering plants and yard art.

If gardening not an interest, we also have other project ideas for now or even later in the year during autumn and also the Christmas holidays.

Any interested boy scout group may contact Angela Hammer, Activity Coordinator at 601-856-0160 or 601-856-0116 or ahammer@stdom.com.

  • Pages of Promise-collecting books for summer reading programs.  For more information and collection site click here.
