Boy Scout Leaders Training
Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters and Committees
This training has two major components – the ‘Indoor’ training and the ‘Outdoor’ training. Both the indoor and the outdoor section are required for a Scouts BSA-Scoutmaster to be considered “Trained”. A Troop must have at least one VOLT Trained Adult Leader in order to take their Troop camping. Having multiple VOLT Trained Leaders is best.
The indoor training focuses on the essentials of being a good Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Member. By the end of this course you should have confidence that being a Scout Leader is a manageable challenge, understand that you have abundant available resources, and know that the structure of the Boy Scouts of America ensures you are a part of a supportive team working to deliver the promise of Scouting to the youth of America.
The outdoor training is a hands-on program that teaches you the practical outdoor skills you need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. It takes you through the basic skills that First Class Scouts are expected to know – cooking, camp setup, hiking/backpacking, map and compass, first aid, flag display, fire building, Leave No Trace, and more.
This VOLT Training is also for any Webelos Leader or Pack Committee Member that will be crossing over to the Troop with a year.
$50 Fee covers the cost of the training materials and food for the weekend.
