About BSA Districts Facilities Council Events Training Support Scouting

Welcome to the Andrew Jackson Council, Boy Scouts of America Web.  The Andrew Jackson Council serves over 21,000 youth annually in 22 counties of Central and Southwest Mississippi with the help of over 3,000 volunteers and in collaboration with over 500 chartering organizations (churches, schools, businesses, civic organizations, and government entities).  With a staff of nine professionals, six office, and one camp ranger, we are proud of the extension of service we provide to our Packs, Troops, Venture Crews, and Learning for Life Groups and Posts.  Each of our professional staff extends themselves by creating an estimated 96 volunteer hours per day.

The success of any Scouting organization depends on volunteer involvement at all levels. We are proud of the fact that the Andrew Jackson Council is noted as having one of the strongest Executive Boards in the Southern Region.  Primarily, most volunteers enter the Scouting movement through the Cub Scout program for the first time with their son and may continue their volunteer tenure as their young Scout progresses in rank.

There are four basic functions of any Boy Scout Council.  They are membership, program, service, and finance.  All four functions are essential in order for Scouting to continue and to thrive.  All of the different variables of our movement will fall into one of these four functions.

Throughout a year of Scouting, youth members, adult leaders, and parents will have the opportunity to participate in several Unit, District, and Council activities.  We recommend you consider all of these as they will help to provide a well rounded Scouting experience that will help your son to progress in rank, build his confidence and self-esteem.  It is vitally important, however, that you as a parent take an interest and that he participates in his pack or troop. We encourage you to participate in as many training opportunities as possible, whether leader training, youth protection training, or one of the advanced courses.

Finally, Scouting is self-sustaining.  Scouting units must raise their funds in order to pay for their program and the Andrew Jackson Council must raise money to sustain its service.  Our budget is $ 1.5 million and continues to increase as our membership and costs increase.  Our annual popcorn sale is a good way to help provide funds for your son’s unit as well as to help your council meet its financial requirements.

Scouting is the only program in America where a boy will attend his meeting, raise his right hand in the Scout sign and profess his duty to God, to his country, and to helping others.  On behalf of the Executive Board of the Andrew Jackson Council, Boy Scouts of America, we thank you for visiting our web and hope we can continue to be of service to you and your family.

                                                               Sincerely,
                                                               Arnold J. Landry
