(Volunteer Outdoor Leader Training for Boy Scout Leaders)

This training has two major components – the ‘Indoor’ training and the ‘Outdoor’ training. Both the indoor and the outdoor sections, along with an online course, "This is Scouting", must be completed by new leaders in order to be considered "Trained". This training is also a prerequisite for Wood Badge.

The "This is Scouting" video can be found on the www.myscouting.org. Login and go to E-Learning and the course can be found on the General Tab.

The indoor training focuses on the essentials of being a good Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Member. By the end of this course you should have confidence that being a Scout Leader is a manageable challenge, understand that you have abundant available resources, and know that the structure of the Boy Scouts of America ensures you are a part of a supportive team working to deliver the promise of Scouting to the youth of America.

The outdoor training is a hands-on program that teaches you the practical outdoor skills you need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. It takes you through the basic skills that First Class Scouts are expected to know – cooking, camp setup, hiking/backpacking, map and compass, first aid, flag display, fire building, Leave No Trace, and more.

Cost is $50 for the weekend and includes all meals and training materials.
