Investment in Character - Friends of Scouting

Lord Robert Baden Powell, a British war hero and the founder of the Scouting movement, called Scouting a "Game with a Purpose". Fun is the game, while Values are the purpose. The Boy Scouts of America was founded in large part due to a "Daily Good Turn", and today remains an unwavering values-based program, which can make a significant, positive difference in the lives of our Country’s youth. The Mission Statement of the BSA provides that the organization’s purpose is:"To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law" (emphasis added).

I am writing to you regarding the INVESTMENT IN CHARACTER program, in which the families within our Council help to support and maintain the programs offered by our Council. This is an integral part of our budgeting process. Because of the steady decline in financial support from governmental agencies, your financial support is critical and needed now more than ever before.

There is no better program than the Boy Scouts of America to provide to our youth the family based values, so needed in today’s society. Please help to support the Scouting program in our Council with your financial contributions. Your checks should be made payable to the "Boy Scouts of America", In conjunction with our "Investment in Character" program, the Andrew Jackson Council has designed a unique set of Council Shoulder Patches ("CSPs") to be issued in 2008, based upon the first two points of the Scout Law, "Helpful" and "Friendly. The CSPs recognize 100 years of Scouting. The CSPs will be issued as follows:

1. The Collectors set of CSPs (two patches, Trustworthy and Loyalty) will be issued to those supporters in the Investment in Character program who contribute a minimum of $50.00.
2. The Limited Edition set of CSPs (again, two patches, Trustworthy and Loyal, but with a Mylar border and strictly limited to 100 sets) will be issued to those supporters in the Investment in Character program who contribute a minimum of $100.00.
3. Both sets of CSPs (while quantities last) will be issued to supporters of the Investment in Character program who contribute a minimum of $150.00.
4. This will be a 6 year program with two of the  points of the Scout Law covered each year by special edition sets of CSPs. Each year will have a new design.
